I feel that spiritual healing of any type and spirituality in general lose a lot of credibility/legitimacy/appeal because the difference is not made clear between mental illness and being spiritually advanced.

Spiritualism was growing strong in the USA and in Europe at the end of the 19th century, started going down in the first half of the 20th century and has been going down ever since. It's now a sclerosed fringe phenomenon (some people associate it with cults!!!) while it should be immensely popular because it answers all the questions that a person might have from childhood to death.

In my opinion, the paranormal shows bear a lot of responsibility for that confusion.
