Grounding Techniques for Psychics

Numerous exercises in spirituality begin with what is known as grounding. The basic idea is to find a way to connect to the Earth and to then draw energy from this connection. Grounding can help you feel more focused and less confused or out of sorts with the world. There are a number of ways to achieve this altered state of mind and enhance your psychic abilities. If grounding is new to you, try a variety of techniques. You will, through trial and error, find the method that is most effective for you.

Visualization
One popular method of grounding makes use of visualizations. Seat yourself comfortably in a chair and place both feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes and try to imagine a beam of light coming out of the soles of your feet and extending deep into the Earth. Imagine sending all your negative energy --- all your stress, anger, guilt, and worry --- out of your body through your feet. This may take a few minutes, particularly if you've had a bad day. Once you're feeling relaxed and your negative energy is gone, visualize powerful, positive energy coming up from the Earth and entering your body. It may help to envision your entire body surrounded by bright, white light. Once you can clearly picture this, open your eyes. You are now officially grounded.

Variations
If you're having trouble with visualization, it may help to move outdoors. Find a quiet spot and imagine you are a tree. Or park yourself beneath a tree and lean against it, imagining you are part of it. Breathe deeply, in through the nose and out through the mouth. Try to imagine your roots extending deep within the ground, drawing energy back up to you from the Earth. Every time you exhale, see yourself growing taller and stronger, sending your roots deeper into the soil. Instead of a bright, white light, you may have better luck envisioning a glowing green energy coming out of the ground and entering your body through your feet. Work on "feeling" the energy enter you and pass from the lower legs all the way to the top of the head.

Alternatives
If you're not a visual person or if the above techniques just aren't working for you, try going for a walk in a secluded area. Stand on the banks of a river or the shore of lake and try to think of nothing at all. Simply take a few minutes to enjoy what is all around you. Or, if you have a yard, try getting outside and doing a bit of gardening as a means of getting connected to the Earth.
