Pagan Meditation Techniques
By:Kelly Banaski-Sons

Pagan rituals are steeped in history, and pagan spiritual techniques have been used successfully for centuries. These simple meditation exercises can be used to reach a higher religious awareness, to relax and relieve stress or to just enjoy a peaceful retreat after a harrowing day.

Breath Meditation
Begin by sitting in a quiet room where you will not be disturbed. Lie or sit in a comfortable position and release tension in all parts of your body. Relax all your muscles, including those in your face and head. Start to pay attention to the sound and feel of your breathing. Listen to it go in and out of your body. Pay attention to how it feels in your nose, throat and lungs. Continue in this way for at least 10 minutes.

This technique requires a photo or an object that brings about a peaceful feeling in you. In quiet room where you will not be disturbed, sit or lie down comfortably. You must feel perfectly at ease and relaxed. Relax the muscles in your body, face and neck. Begin your meditation by gazing at the object for short intervals of three to four seconds. Then close your eyes and concentrate on the peaceful feelings that occur. Gaze at the object for longer intervals each time. Let the feelings of peace and relaxation calm you. Continue for at least 10 minutes.

Light Meditation
Lie down on your back in a cool, dim room. Relax all the muscles in your body, face and neck. Close your eyes and imagine yourself enveloped in white light. It should fully encompass your entire body. Determine that the light is warm and safe. Practice drawing the light closer to you and farther away. Say to yourself that you are protected by the light and that it keeps away all evil and unwanted influences.
